A person who contaminated treats with sleeping medication and provided them to minors at a youth camp in the area has pleaded guilty to sexual offenses against two young males both nine and 10.

Jon Ruben was taken into custody after eight minors and a grown-up fell ill at the location in the summer month.

The senior citizen, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, admitted guilt to a series of 17 offences when he was present at the courthouse on Friday.

However, he refused to admit one of the sexual offences he was facing, which was concerning a nine-year-old boy.

The accused was remanded in custody ahead of a subsequent court date on November 28th.

'Treat game'

The prosecutor, prosecuting, described the criminal behavior to the court.

She said his victims were under-privileged children who were staying at a youth camp which he managed.

The defendant engaged in a "sweet game" with the youngsters, Mrs Prior said, in which he would access the boys' rooms when they were getting ready for bed and tell them to ingest treats "rapidly".

She told the court Ruben had played this game with the boys "for many years", and minors had previously fallen ill the next day.

She said the defendant had been able to explain this repeatedly as the minors being "overexcited from fun", until his stepchild had concerns in recently.

The prosecutor stated further: "Recently" his family member had concerns about the situation, for good reason.

"They decided to investigate in the defendant's belongings."

The prosecutor stated objects including baby oil, Vaseline and injection devices were found, and his family member notified the law enforcement about his suspicions.

She stated the defendant proceeded to play the "treat game" with six boys that night - that Saturday - and they were all ill the subsequent day.

"The police had not responded by that time," she stated further.

The police watchdog, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, previously told that it was reviewing the police response of the incident.

The legal representative explained the youngsters were struggling to walk due to their condition, so Ruben's stepson contacted the authorities a second time.

She explained Ruben then engaged in the "treat game" in a area of five minors.
